Tània Vilella, a PhD student at BBT and CIEFMA, and Jan Grzelak, a postdoctoral researcher working at ERC BAMBBI project, are currently undertaking two research stays in Sweden and the UK, respectively.
Dr. Milica Živanić, PhD student at the BBT, presented her doctoral thesis "Cold plasma-treated hydrogels for multimodal cancer therapy", co-directed by Dr. Cristina Canal, Dr. Albert Espona, Dr. Annemie Bogaerts and Dr. Abraham Lin.
Dr. Cristina Canal and Dr. Francesco Tampieri, together with Dr. Maria-Pau Ginebra, Dr. Marta Pegueroles, Dr. Montse Español and Dr. Carles Mas-Moruno, are part of the Erasmus+ IGNITE project, which aims to promote the development of skills to carry out environmentally sustainable innovation and entrepreneurship in STEAM study programs.
The Research Group in Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering is part of the team of two Redes de Investigación (Research Networks) projects, a call recently resolved by the AEI: the TEVIMO network, coordinated by Gloria Gallego (University of Valencia) and with Carles Mas-Moruno as a BBT researcher, and the PLASPAIN network, coordinated by Fernando Alba Elías (University of La Rioja) with Cristina Canal as a BBT researcher.
On May 7-9th, the CIBER-BBN Group Leaders Workshop was held in Zaragoza. The BBT has belonged to CIBER-BBN since the beginning of 2024. There, Prof. Ginebra was able to present the different research lines of the group, objectives and mission of the BBT, technologies and capabilities identified, and present their needs and possible points of contact with the rest of the CIBER groups and areas.
Patricia López, a PhD student at BBT, achieved 3rd place in the 8th edition of the "Present your thesis in 4 minutes" competition, organized by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation, in the qualifying phase of the UPC.
Laia Moliner, a PhD student at BBT with a CIBER-BBN predoctoral grant, participated in this year's edition of the Pint of Science Barcelona 2025 Festival, with the talk "Bioprinting: a real chapter of Black Mirror?".
Dr. Sílvia Gómez presented her doctoral thesis "Surface modification treatments to enhance the performance of titanium backplate in keratoprosthesis”, co-directed by Prof. José María Manero and Dr. Rafael I. Barraquer, on May 30th at EEBE.
Dr. Jordi Guillem-Martí, along with researchers from the BBT and the Baker Lab (USA), has just published a new study in Advanced Materials introducing a new class of proteins called NeoNectins, designed to actively engage the body’s natural healing processes.
