Milica Živanić, new Doctor in Biomedical Engineering

Dr. Milica Živanić, PhD student at the BBT, presented her doctoral thesis "Cold plasma-treated hydrogels for multimodal cancer therapy", co-directed by Dr. Cristina Canal, Dr. Albert Espona, Dr. Annemie Bogaerts and Dr. Abraham Lin.

BBT's PhD student Milica Živanić defended her Doctoral Thesis "Cold plasma-treated hydrogels for multimodal cancer therapy", co-supervised by Dr.  Cristina Canal, Dr. Albert Espona (BBT - UVic, Spain), Dra. Annemie Bogaerts (UAntwerp, Belgium) and Dr. Abraham Lin (Orbits Oncology, USA), on April 4th, 2025 at EEBE (Barcelona, Spain).

The Jury was formed by Dr. Lourdes Mengual (UB, Spain), President, Dr. Francesco Tampieri (BBT-UPC), Secretary and Drs. Eloisa Sardella (CNR, Italy), Evelien Smits (UAntwerp, Belgium) and Dra. Gemma Fuster Orellana (UVic, Spain) as Vocals.

The work carried out by Dr. Živanić during her doctoral thesis has helped to establish PTH as a new plasma modality within the community and has provided proof of concept and justification for its use as versatile dual platforms and in combination with existing therapies for multimodal cancer treatment.

During her doctoral thesis, Milica carried out two research stays at the University of Antwerp (Belgium) in 2022 and 2024, under the direction of her co-supervisors, Dr. Bogaerts and Dr. Lin, who at that time was working at the institution.
