Dr. Miguel Mateu, a doctoral student at the BBT under the auspices of the ERC APACHE project, presented his doctoral thesis on the "Evaluation of biological effects of atmospheric plasmas in bone cancer", co-directed by Dr. Cristina Canal and Dr. Juan Tornín.

BBT PhD student Nerea García de Albéniz has been awarded the FEMS Master Thesis Award 2022 during the Junior EUROMAT 2022, with her TFM "Laser-assisted surface modification of zirconia-based materials to enhance osteoblast response for dental applications" .

Dr. Maria Pau Ginebra, Full Professor of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (CEM) and Director of CEM and BBT, as well as of CREB's Biomaterials Division, has been awarded an Advanced Grant by the European Research Council (ERC) to study the mechanisms of interaction between biomaterials and bacteria, and develop surfaces capable of fighting infections and, at the same time, promoting bone regeneration. Advanced Grants are the highest distinction awarded by the ERC to research projects at the frontier of knowledge, and a culmination in the research career of Prof. Ginebra.

Marc Iglesias, PhD student at the BBT research group at UPC, has been awarded the "Best Oral Presentation" Award at Bioceramics 32, the 32nd Symposium and Annual Meeting of ISCM, held in Venice (Italy), from the 20th to the 23rd September, 2022.

Agencia Estatal de Investigación has granted funding to carry out two projects in our research group. They are the PolyCoarct project: Polymeric adaptable stents to treat pediatric aortic coarctation, with Dr. Marta Pegueroles as PI; and the TaperMesh project: Development of tailored 3D printed permanent and resorbable metallic scaffolds with biofunctionalized hydrogel for bone regeneration, with Drs. José M. Manero and Daniel Rodríguez-Rius as PIs.
