A summer of conferences

Although summer is typically vacation time in our country, BBT's research staff never stops, and during these months they have attended several conferences and disseminated the results of their research.

This summer has been intense for the BBT's researchers. Although the summer months are typically vacation time in Catalonia, many researchers have attended national and international conferences in order to disseminate their research results.

In June-July, Dr. Cristina Canal, Dr. Francesco Tampieri and Dr. Albert Espona made several oral and plenary presentations at the 9th International Conference on Plasma Medicine (ICPM9) i 1st annual meeting of the COST Action "PlasTHER: Therapeutical Applications of Cold Plasmas"., held in Jaarbeurs, Utrecht (The Netherlands) from June 27th to July 1st:

  • C. Canal. Lessons learnt with plasma-treated liquid therapies for bone cancer: opportunities for Plasma Medicine. Plenary Lecture.
  • F. Tampieri, A. Espona Noguera, E. Bonnefoy, L. Scheid, C. Canal. Biocompatible Composite Hydrogels for Storage and Delivery of Plasma-Generated Reactive Species.
  • A. Espona-Noguera, F. Tampieri, C. Canal. Dual action of RONS/Biomolecule-loaded Hydrogels: Killing Cancer Cells and Enhancing Stem Cells Viability.

PhD student Victor Chausse, under the supervision of Dr. Marta Pegueroles, attended the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS) European Chapter Conference 2022, which took place from June 28th to July 1st in Krakow (Poland), with a poster presentation:

  • V. Chausse, E. Casanova-Batlle, C. Canal, J. Ciurana, M. Pegueroles. Additive manufacturing and electrospinning as a dual fabrication strategy for biomimetic drug-eluting bioresorbable stents.

At national level, Dr. Maria-Pau Ginebra made an oral presentation at the XVI Congreso Nacional de Materiales, held in Ciudad Real (Spain) between the 28th of June and the 1st of July:

  • Y. Raymond, M. Bonany, C. Lehmann, E. Thorel, R. Benítez, J. Franch, M. Espanol, X. Solé-Martí, M.C. Manzanares, C. Canal, M.P. Ginebra. Efecto de la nanotextura en andamios de fosfato de calcio impresos en 3D: interacción con las proteínas y formación ósea in vivo.

And Nerea García de Albéniz, a doctoral studen co-d directed by Dr. Carles Mas-Moruno (BBT) and Dr. Emilio Jiménez (CIEFMA) represented the Spanish Society of Materials (SOCIEMAT) at Best Mater Thesis Award during the Junior Euromat 2022, celebrated in Coimbra (Portugal) on the 19-22nd of July. Nerea won the award with this presentation:

  • N. Garcia de Albeniz, E. Jiménez, J.J. Roa, C. Mas-Moruno. Laser-assisted surface modification of zirconia-based materials to guide osteoblast response for dental applications.

Already in August, PhD student Claudia García Mintegui, co-directed by Dr. Marta Pegueroles (BBT) and Dr. José Luis Cortina (R2EM), presented this oral talk at the 14th Symposium on Biodegradable Metals (BIOMETAL14), held from the 24th to the 28th of August in Alicante (Spain):
