Consellera of Research and Universities, Gemma Geis, paid an institutional visit to the Manresa and Diagonal-Besòs campuses of the UPC on October, 28th. During the visit, she was able to get to know the teaching, research and technology transfer activity of the BBT, among other research groups.
BBT PhD student, Nerea García de Albéniz, has been awarded the SocieMat 2021 prize for Best TFM in Materials Science, in the 2021 edition, with her TFM on "Laser-assisted surface modification of zirconia- materials based on enhancing osteoblast response for dental applications ".
BBT is part of Xartec Salut, the largest network of innovation research groups in Catalonia, which has just published an informative video about the work we do (look for us in the images).
The research group has been granted a project at the call for International Cooperation of the AEI to carry out their project "3D printing of calcium phosphates for osteoinduction in bone regeneration applications".

Therapeutical applications of Cold Plasma (PlasTHER) is a COST Action project that sets a collaborative network of specialists designed to coordinate European activity in the plasma medicine field, and promotes the development of a coherent European research programme. This pluri-disciplinary network, coordinated by Dr. Cristina Canal, integrates experts in physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, and medical doctors from 24 countries, coming from various sectors in academia, businesses, and healthcare.
Industrial PhD student Linh Johansson (Mimetis-BBT) attended the Summer School "From laboratory to the market of medical devices", which took place in Toulouse (France) from March 21st to the 25th, 2022, thanks to a scolarship funded by the European project RISEus2.
David Piñera and Miguel Mateu, both BBT doctoral students, get 1st and 2nd place in the #HiloTesis competition at the UPC. Piñera will represent our university in the state final of the competition, organized by Red de Divulgación y Cultura Científica (RedDivulga) of the Comisión Sectorial de I+D+i by the Conferencia de Rectores de les Universidades Españolas (CRUE).
Dr. Cristina Canal has been awarded with a Proof of Concept (PoC) grant by the European Research Council (ERC) to assess the possibility of bringing to the market a novel therapy to treat osteosarcoma that promotes bone regeneration with less side effects than current treatments.
