Two BBT projects, presented during Indústria del Coneixement's Investors Day
Feb 04, 2026
Two weeks ago, two BBT members presented in Indústria del Coneixement's Investors Day, a programme by the Department of Research and Universities of the Generalitat of Catalonia, with two innovative projects: D-Shapes and PlasmAccelerate.
PhD student Roberto Fagotto and Tech Transfer Technician Adrià Barceló presented two innovative projects -D-Shapes and PlasmAccelerate - in the Investors Day of the Programa Indústria del Coneixement, held on January 21st, 2026 in Barcelona.
D-Shapes, a project led by Maria Pau Ginebra, was awarded a Producte Grant in the 2024 call.
This project introduces a novel approach to creating patient-specific synthetic bone grafts using advanced additive manufacturing. The technology enables high-resolution, complex grafts that are flexible and easy to handle during surgery, and that harden under physiological conditions. Compared to existing solutions, it offers a more versatile, faster and more cost-efficient route to next-generation synthetic bone grafts. The project was presented during the event by Roberto Fagotto
PlasmAccelerate, led by Cristina Canal, received an Innovadors Grant at the same call.
The project focuses on advancing the product and business development of our patented Plasma-Treated Hydrogels technology. These biocompatible and injectable hydrogels are designed to fill surgical cavities after tumor resection, eliminating residual cancer cells and helping to prevent local relapse. The technology has demonstrated synergistic effects with current systemic therapies, such as chemotherapy, enhancing its therapeutic potential. The project was presented during the event by Adrià Barceló.
Both projects participated in the one-year Indústria del Coneixement support programme, led by TopBrands, which helped with the advancement of their technology readiness. The programme provided strategic guidance in intellectual property, regulatory pathways, and business development, as well as support for validation through preclinical assays.
