Prof. Maria Pau Ginebra, awarded with the prestigious Klaas de Groot Award

The European Society of Biomaterials (ESB) awarded Prof. Maria-Pau Ginebra with the prestigious Klaas de Groot award, which rewards scientists who have developed excellent mentoring and accompaniment for young researchers.

Prof. Maria-Pau Ginebra has been awarded with the prestigious Klaas de Groot Award, awarded by the European Society of Biomaterials (ESB) to scientists who have shown a distinct ability to provide excellent mentorship and guidance to young researchers, helping them to establish their own independent career.

The award, which was delivered during the 30th Annual Conference of the European Society for Biomaterials ESB 2019 that took place on September, 9-13th, 2019 in Dresden (Germany), recognizes the dedication and effort intended to form the next generation of researchers in the field of biomaterials in Europe, carried out by Prof. Ginebra.

Maria-Pau Ginebra is a Professor at the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy at the UPC, as well as a Director of the Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering group and, since 2015, is an associated researcher to the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC). She has published more than 190 articles in high impact journals and is the inventor of 10 patents. In 2013, she co-funded the spin-off company Mimetis Biomaterials and, in 2018,she was finalist of the EU Prize for Innovative Women. She received the Narcís Monturiol Medal from the Generalitat de Catalunya in 2012 and the Racquel LeGeros Award of the International Society for Ceramics in Medicine in 2013 for her contribution to research in calcium phosphates. In addition, she has been three times awarded with the ICREA Acadèmia Award (2008, 2013 and 2018) and the Ciutat de Barcelona Prize.
