Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI) has decided to fund the project "ENABLE: New enabling technologies for the development of high performance osteoinductive and antimicrobial bone grafts" lead by Drs. Maria-Pau Ginebra and Cristina Canal, in the latest call for PID projects 2019.
Drs. Maria-Pau Ginebra and Cristina Canal have received funding from the Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI) to carry out their PID2019 project "ENABLE: New enabling technologies for the development of high performance osteoinductive and antimicrobial bone grafts".
ENABLE aims, on the one hand, to respond to the challenge of developing synthetic bone grafts that behave like natural bone, by developing new osteoinductive biomaterials (with the capacity to trigger the differentiation of stem cells into bone-forming cells). On the other hand, a frequent problem in bone therapies is infection, which presence is especially difficult to combat in implants. This is why the project proposes to achieve materials that simultaneously present osteoinductive and antimicrobial properties, through the combination of two technologies: 3D printing and low-temperature plasma treatments.
