Oct 02, 2026

Dr. Tània Vilella, a PhD student at BBT and CIEFMA, presented her doctoral thesis on "Biocompatible Superelastic TiNb-based alloys produced by additive manufacturing," co-directed by Dr. Daniel Rodríguez-Rius and Dr. Gemma Fargas.

BBT PhD student Tània Vilella defended her Doctoral Thesis, "Biocompatible Superelastic TiNb-based alloys produced by additive manufacturing," co-directed by Dr. Daniel Rodríguez and Dr. Gemma Fargas (CIEFMA), on October 1st, 2026, at the EEBE.

The thesis defense committee was composed of Dr. Edgar Montúfar (CEITEC, Czech Rep.), President; Dr. Marta Pegueroles (BBT-UPC), Secretary; and Dr. Mauro Cerra Florez (Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC), Brazil), Committee Member.

Dr. Vilella was awarded a Doctoral Fellowship by the Research Center in Multiscale Science and Engineering - María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence at UPC and, after 4 years of intense research, has earned her PhD degree.

During her doctoral thesis, she completed two consecutive research stays in 2025 at the Sports Tech Research Center of the Mid Sweden University (Sweden) under the supervision of Dr. Carlos Botero, in the research group of Prof. Lars-Erik Rännar. There, she studied the 3D printing of biocompatible shape-memory alloys using EBM.
