Summer of research and community

This intense activity highlights BBT's ongoing commitment to scientific development, raising the visibility of its research staff's work and collaboration within the Research Center for Materials Science and Engineering (CCEM), the Research and Innovation in Health Institute (IRIS), and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (CEM) at UPC, of which we are part.

Among the events held, we would like to highlight our participation in CCEM's Talent Day, a meeting designed to give voice and visibility to the Center's young and emerging talent. During this event, which took place on June 30th at the Barcelona East School of Engineering (EEBE), postdoctoral researchers Dr. Irina Terrero (BBT-GCM) and Dr. Nabila Mehwish (BBT-CIEFMA), along with PhD researchers Júlia Sanz (BBT-IMEM) and Jordi Rodrigo (BBT-CIEFMA), presented their lines of work and their achievements since joining the CCEM staff.

Likewise, the group played a relevant role in EEBE Research Day, which in this edition was entirely dedicated to the work carried out by memeber of the CCEM. On July 15th, Dr. Marta Pegueroles offered a keynote presentation where she outlined the main research lines currently underway at BBT, placing special emphasis on innovation projects focused on the development of next-generation cardiovascular stents, her primary field of research.

The group's activity during these weeks was completed with active participation in other high-profile institutional forums, including:

Department of Materials Science and Engineering Day at UPC, held on July 16th at Campus Diagonal-Besòs. This event, established by the new Department Director, aims to become a meeting space to discuss the department's most important topics and enable its members, spread across four UPC campuses, to meet and collaborate. In this edition, the Department bade farewell to two retiring members: Prof. Maria Lluïsa Maspoch and Prof. Maite Baile.

The annual meeting of CCEM's Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), which took place on July 14th, served as a session to evaluate achieved milestones and define the center's scientific priorities alongside the external expert committee.

Finally, several members of the group also attended the II IRIS Annual Conference and III INTEXTER Conference, "Research that Cures: UPC, Technology, and the Future of Health," held in Terrassa on July 16th. The event showcased both the cutting-edge biomedical research conducted at UPC and the innovative strength of Terrassa's entire health ecosystem.
