Roberto Fagotto and Nerea García de Albéniz achieved second and third place in the prestigious competition for young researchers in bioceramics, the 2nd Students Speech Contest, organized by the European Ceramic Society (ECerS), with the recognition of the JECS Trust.

Last week, the Bioceramics Network, with the collaboration of Jecs TRUST, celebrated the success of the 2nd edition of the Students Speech Contest, an event that featured young Master and Doctorate level researchers and their inspiring work in the field of bioceramics.

The contest, be held online on November 6th and 7th, 2025 , included 19 oral presentations and 5 posters.

The jury was formed by Maja Detour Sikiric, Helen Reveron, Frank Kern, Siamak Eqtesadi, Maria Canillas and Antonia Ressler, and offered a total of four awards in the oral presentation category (there was a tie for 3rd place) and three in poster.

The highlight of the BBT in the competition came from two PhD students of the group: Roberto Fagotto, who was second, and Nerea García de Albéniz, who obtained third position.

Roberto Fagotto presented his work "DLP printing reactive scaffolds for bone regeneration". He is in his third year of the doctoral thesis, co-directed by Prof. María-Pau Ginebra and Dr. Anna Díez-Escudero, and holds an UPC Doctoral Scholarship.

Nerea García de Albéniz presented her research "Engineering antibacterial and cell-instructive zirconia surfaces for next-generation dental implants". She recently defended her seventh thesis, and is a Doctor in Biomedical Engineering.

The main objective of these awards is to showcase the talent of a new generation of scientists, as well as to contribute to their professional development, offering them a space to grow in their careers, connect and show their work to peers.
