Prof. Maria-Pau Ginebra, ICREA Academia Award

The Government of Catalonia awknowledges the excellence in the research of Maria-Pau Ginebra, Full Professor of Materials Science and Director of the Laboratory of Biomaterials in the Research Centre in Biomedical Engineering of the UPC, for the second consecutive time, with an ICREA Academy Award in the area of ​​technology and engineering.

Maria-Pau Ginebra, Full Professor of Materials Science, is one of the 29 researchers recognized with the ICREA Academy Award of the Government of Catalonia in the 2013 edition, which distinguishes the research on Catalan public universities.

The research area of Maria Pau Ginebra, Full Professor of Department of Materials Science and Metallurgic Engineering (CMEM) at the School of Industrial Engineering of Barcelona (ETSEIB), is the design of new biomaterials for regenerative medciine and drug delivery, especially in the field of bone regeneration.

The 6th edition of these awards ceremony took place on September 2nd 2014, chaired by the Minister of Economy and Knowledge, Andreu Mas-Colell, accompanied by the Secretary of Universities and Research, Antoni Castellà, and the director of the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA) , James Bertranpetit. With the ICREA Academy recognition, the 29 winning researchers will receive 40.000 euros each. These awards are solely intended to Full Professors who conduct their research at the university and, in particular, to those who are under full and active expansion of their research activities.

It is the second time that Dr. Ginebra receives this award, having been awarded in the 1st edition, in 2008, when a total of 160 teachers from Catalan public universities were awarded to fund their research, considered cutting-edge in their respective fields. The first 40 winners, among whom was the Director of BBT, Prof. Maria-Paa Ginebra, were chosen by an international committee that assessed their publications in recent years, the innovative nature of their work and other usual achievements taken into account in international competitions.
