Dr. Nerea García de Albéniz, former PhD student at the BBT, presented her doctoral thesis "Engineering zirconia surfaces with cell instructive and antibacterial properties", co-directed by Dr. Carles Mas-Moruno and Dr. Emilio Jiménez Piqué, on October 13, 2025 at the EEBE.
BBT doctoral student Nerea García de Albéniz defended her Doctoral Thesis "Engineering zirconia surfaces with cell instructive and antibacterial properties", co-directed by Dr. Carles Mas-Moruno (BBT) and Dr. Emilio Jiménez Piqué (CIEFMA), both researchers belonging to the Barcelona Research Center in Multiscale Science and Engineering (CCEB-María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence ), on October 13th, 2025 at the EEBE.
The thesis jury was formed by Dr. Nihal E. Vrana (Sparta Medical, France), President, Dr. María Godoy-Gallardo (BBT-UPC), Secretary and Dra. Helen Reveron (INSA Lyon, France) as Vocal.
During her doctoral thesis studies, Dr. García de Albéniz carried out two research stays at Universität Saarlandes (Germany) in 2022 and 2023, under the direction of Dr. Frank Mücklich, and a 3-month stay at Instituto de Nanosistemas (UNSAM, Argentina), under the supervision of Dr. Diego Pallarola, head of the Advanced Biosensors Research Group.
