Mimetis Biomaterials, a 'spin off' of BBT, one of the best "bio" companies of the year

Mimetis Biomaterials and Tractivus were awarded as first and second prize finalists of BioEmprenedorXXI, which recognizes business projects with high growth potential in the field of life sciences, receiving 6,000 and 3,000 euros respectively and the status of associated company in the PCB. The company usMIMA was the winner of the 2014 edition of this prestigious award. La Caixa, Barcelona City Council, through Barcelona Activa, and Biocat promote this award, valued at 21.000 euros and a package of activities accelerating growth and also of training activities to increas internationalization and incubation, for the winner and the two finalists.

Mimetis Biomaterials is focused on transferring the results of the Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering research group of the UPC to the market. One of the developed materials by the company is an injectable calcium phosphate foam of last generation, with inherent biological properties.The material facilitates, and even induces, biological processes that end up materializing in the regeneration of the lost bon, and can be used also as a drug delivery system. They also have an innovative and versatile technology for the manufacture of synthetic microgranules, which have various applications, such as increased bone mass or regenerating bone defects produced by open fractures or tumor resections.
