Miguel Mateu receives Best Thesis Presentation Award during the III IRSJD Scientific Day

Miguel Mateu, PhD student in the ERC APACHE project under the direction of Dr. Cristina Canal and Dr. Juan Tornín, presented his doctoral thesis in a video during the III Scientific Conference of the Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute (IRSJD) and received the First Prize.

The III Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute (IRSJD) Scientific Day took place on October, 28th at the Faculty of Biology of the UB. At the conference, 11 IRSJD intramural scientific collaboration projects were presented, from different scientific and technological approaches, in order to give a global vision of the institute and the research that is being carried out.

During the second part of the day, 6 doctoral theses were presented by students who are part of the IRSJD, in video format, in the framework of the Award for the Best Presentation of Doctoral Thesis. Researcher Miguel Mateu Sanz (BBT) was the winner of the 1st Prize, with his work "Evaluation of the biological effects of plasma-conditioned liquids with osteosarcoma gas: effects of a therapy based on oxidative stress", and researcher Laura Castilla Vallmanya was second, with her work" Combining exome sequencing and functional studies to identify causal genes of ultra-rare neurodevelopmental disorders ". The assessment was based on a scientific evaluation by an evaluation committee and the score obtained during a voting process by the public attending the Conference.

The diplomas were presented by the director of CERCA, Dr. Lluís Rovira, and the director of the IRSJD, Dr. Francesc Palau.
