Marta Pegueroles receives CaixaImpulse funding to develop new pediatric aortic stents

Nov 20, 2025

Dr. Marta Pegueroles and PhD student Mariola Cano are part of the research team of the 4DBIOSTENT project, funded by the CaixaImpulse Innovation Program, which aims to bring to market a new advanced stent manufactured with resorbable materials and designed to adapt to the growth of the arteries, which aims to significantly improve the quality of life of children with aortic coarctation.

The project "4DBIOSTENT: 4D bioresorbable stent, a lifelong solution for pediatric aortic coarctation" is led by Dr. Andrés García (IQS) and has a research team of 6 people, including BBT researcher Dr. Marta Pegueroles and PhD student Mariola Cano.

The project focuses on advancing the development of a 4D bioresorbable stent designed for pediatric patients. This adaptable structure goes beyond localized mechanical support: it adjusts to growth and promotes arterial remodeling, minimizing reinterventions and improving the overall vascular health of patients with aortic coarctation.

Thanks to the funding received at the CaixaImpulse 2025 call, the team expects to to take another step towards bringing this new technology to the market.

In fact, the CaixaImpulse Innovation Program has as its main objective to bring scientific knowledge closer to society and encourage the creation of new products, services and companies related to the life sciences. By supporting cutting-edge innovative biomedical projects, it aims to help them validate their assets and define their valorization and exploitation strategy, bringing them closer to the market.
