Maria-Pau Ginebra receives the accreditation of the CCEM as a Unit of Excellence María de Maeztu

Dr. Maria-Pau Ginebra, Scientific Director of the Center for Research in Science and Multiscale Engineering of Barcelona (CCEM) of the UPC, received the accreditation as Unidad de Excelencia María de Maeztu awarded by the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades through Agencia Estatal de Investigación, from the hands of the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant.

On September 5th, Dr. Maria Pau Ginebra, Scientific Director of the Center for Research in Science and Multiscale Engineering of Barcelona (CCEM) of the UPC, accompanied to the event by the vice-rector of Research Jordi Llorca, collected the accreditation as Unidad de Excelencia María de Maeztu, awarded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities through the Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI).

The award ceremony took place in Madrid, during the General Assembly of the SOMMa Alliance, which brings together all the centers and research units in Spain that have obtained the Severo Ochoa and María de Maeztu accreditation since 2018 up to the present day. The event was chaired by the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant, who also handed over the accreditations.

Thanks to this accreditation as a Unit of Excellence bythe AEI, the center will receive a grant of approximately 3M euros over four years, to carry out strategic research and training programs to strengthen the center as a unit of excellence in research. This funding makes it possible to strengthen the organization, the strategic planning of research and the promotion of good practices in the management of the receiving centers. Likewise, it also aims to increase the visibility of centers and units of excellence, internationalization, attraction and recruitment of young research talent.

The CCEM, which is located on the Diagonal-Besòs Campus, carries out research, development and innovation in micro and nanoengineering, nanotechnology and nanoscience of materials.
