Maria Pau Ginebra, BBT Director, attends the big finale of the EU Prize for Women Innovators

Researcher Maria Pau Ginebra, Professor of the Department of Materials Science and Director of the Research Group in Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering, attended the award ceremony of the EU Prize for Women Innovators 2018, as a finalist.

Maria Pau Ginebra, BBT Director, attended the award ceremony of the EU Prize for Women Innovators 2018 held in Brussels on June, 21st. 

Professor Ginebra, founder of Mimetis Biomaterials , a spin-off of the BBT research group focused on the design and manufacture of new synthetic biomaterials for regeneration bone and orthopedic applications, had been selected as one of the 12 finalists of the EU Prize for Women Innovators 2018.

At an award ceremony in Brussels, Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation Carlos Moedas and MEP Eva Kaili announced the four winners of the 2018 EU Prize for Women Innovators: Ms Gabriella Colucci (Italy), Ms Alicia Asín Pérez (Spain), Ms Walburga Fröhlich (Austria) and Ms Karen Dolva (Norway) as Rising Innovator.

The European Union created the Prize for Women Innovators 2018, within the framework of the Horizon 2020 program, with the will to raise awareness about the need to innovate in the EU, together with the encouragement for more women to become entrepeneurs. Each finalist must had founded, or co-founded, a successful company, based on innovative ideas or projects that have reached the market.

The call was attended by 122 women from all around the EU Member States and countries associated to the Horitzon 2020 program. The companies created by the contestants were based on innovative ideas in a wide range of sectors, among which are those of health, biotechnology and social innovation.
