Dr. Mireia Hoyos and Dr. Joanna M. Sadowska present their Doctoral Thesis

Dr. Mireia Hoyos and Joanna Sadowska, both members of the BBT research team, presented their PhD Thesis in Materials Science at the EEBE.

Mireia Hoyos i Joanna M. Sadowska, PhD students from the Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering Group of the UPC, defended their doctoral thesis on 23 and 24 July, respectively, at the Campus Diagonal Besòs

Dr. Hoyos-Nogués presented his thesis "New strategies for improving the biological characteristics of dental implants", directed by Drs. Carles Mas-Moruno and Xavier Gil (UIC), with a Jury formed by Drs. Julios San Román (CSIC), Eugenio Velasco (Universidad de Sevilla) and Dr. Marta Pegueroles (UPC). Mireia Hoyos enjoyed a FI grant from the Generalitat to carry out her thesis and, nowadays, she is a Professor at the International University of Catalonia.

Dr. Sadowska, on the other hand, enjoyed a FPI Scholarship for the accomplishment of her thesis "Effect of microstructural and chemical cues on the in vitro cell response to calcium phosphates", directed by Dr. Maria-Pau Ginebra and Dr. Jordi Guillem-Martí, defended before a jury formed by Dr. Francesc Ventura (UB), Dr. Gemma Mestres (Uppsala Universitet) and Dr. Cristina Canal (UPC). She conducted two research stays at the Department of Applied Materials Science at Uppsala Universitet (Sweden) and at the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation of Queensland University Of Technology  Brisbane (Australia), thanks to which her doctoral thesis enjoyed an International Mention.

Both researchers achieved the highest score for their Doctoral Thesis, Excellent Cum Laude.
