Dr. Carles Mas, granted with a Ramón y Cajal Fellowship

Dr .Carles Mas, member of the Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering research group, awarded with a Ramón y Cajal Fellowship by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.

Dr. Carles Mas (Andorra, 1981) has been awarded with a Ramón y Cajal Fellowship 2015 by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.

He studied Chemistry at the Universitat of Barcelona (UB) and at the Victoria University of Manchester (Manchester, UK). After graduation, he joined Prof. Albericio’s lab for a PhD position at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB) of the UB. His thesis focused on the design and synthesis of peptides with capacity to neutralize bacterial endotoxins as therapeutic agents for the treatment of sepsis. As part of his PhD training, he was a visiting PhD student at Med. Dr. D. Kasper group at the Channing Laboratory of Harvard Medical School (Boston, USA). Dr. Carles Mas won the Prize “XV Premi 2011 Claustre de Doctors de la Universitat de Barcelona” for the Best PhD Thesis of the University of Barcelona in 2009. After completion of his PhD, he joined the group of Prof. Horst Kessler at the Technische Universität München (TUM) (Munich, Germany) for a postdoctoral position. His main topic of research was the design and synthesis of highly active and selective integrin ligands for applications in cancer therapy and biomaterials.

Dr. Mas joined the Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering research group in 2011 and, since then, he has been awarded with a Beatriu de Pinós Fellowship (Generalitat de Catalunya) and a Marie Curie Career Integration Grant (European Union).

Dr. Carlos Mas is the second member of the BBT research group being awarded with a Ramón y Cajal Fellowship, after Dr. Cristina Canal was awarded in 2013.
