Biocat with women entrepreneurs

Feb 28, 2019

According to the data provided by Biocat, "one in four companies created in the BioRegion of Catalonia in the past five years is led by a woman", among them Mimetis Biomaterials, spin-off of BBT.

Biocat has recently published an informative article focused on the fact that "26% of Catalan biomedical companies created over the past five years have a female CEO or founder, (...). For companies created in 2018, the figure is 45%, suggesting an upward trend in female scientists who decide to go down the path of entrepreneurship".

Among these entrepreneurial women, there is Dr. Maria-Pau Ginebra, Director of the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering of the UPC and of the Research Group in Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering, awarded for the third time with an ICREA Academia and co-founder and President of the spin-off company Mimetis Biomaterials.

It is also necessary to highlight that "of the 33 Catalan biomedical companeis to raise over €1 million in investment in 2017 and 2018, 18% (6 companies) are led by women". In fact, "associating gender and results is controversial, but even McKinsey dared to say that companies with more female executives post results that are 27% better than the sector average"

Finally, we would like to propose a game: are you able to find Maria Pau in this mosaic of Women Entrepreneurs?
