BBT researchers get a project to study hydroxyapatite samples at ALBA synchrotron

Researchers from the BBT research group carried out the project "Maturation of biomimetic hydroxyapatite after implantation in vivo and in cell culture medium" at ALBA Synchrotron (Cerdanyola del Vallès).

On February 13th to 15th, Prof. Maria Pau Ginebra, Dr. Montserrat Español, Dr. Irene Lodoso and PhD student Joanna Konka performed an experiment at ALBA synchrotron, in Cerdanyola del Vallès.

The experiment "Maturation of biomimetic hydroxyapatite after implantation in vivo and in cell culture medium" was carried out at line BL01 - MIRAS of infrared spectroscopy, with the help of the local contact from ALBA, Dr. Martin Kreuzer.

The main objective of this experiment was the characterization and mapping of hydroxyapatite samples incubated in vitro in culture medium or intramuscular and intraosseous samples implanted in an animal model.

The experiment is part of the PhD project of Joanna Konka: "3D-Printed Biomimetic Bone", under the project "PRINT4LIFE: Novel bioprinting strategies for bone regeneration and cancer therapies".
