AGAUR's Indústria del Coneixement call supports two BBT projects

Jan 10, 2025

Once the final resolution of the AGAUR 2024 Indústria del Coneixement grants call has been published, we can confirm that two projects presented by BBT researchers have been chosen to receive funding.

This year, two projects presented by BBT researchers, Prof. Maria-Pau Ginebra and Dr. Cristina Canal in the categories "Innovators" (transfer led by innovators) and "Product" (prototypes and valorization), have been selected by AGAUR to receive funding.

"PlasmAccelerate: Accelerating transfer of cold plasma-based anticancer therapy for bone cancers" aims to accelerate the process of transferring to the market an anticancer therapy based on cold plasmas for a non-invasive treatment of bone cancer. Cristina Canal, Principal Investigator of the project, highlights that "this support will be fundamental to promote the transfer of our technology, through the hiring of an entrepreneurial profile and the assistance of a specialized support plan to bring this innovation closer to patients".

On the other hand, the "3D-Printing of high-resolution flexible bone grafts" project seeks the development and final testing of a new generation of flexible bone grafts, based on the novel formulation of 3D printing inks. In the words of researcher Anna Díez-Escudero, "this grant will allow us to advance in the development and scaling of this innovative technology, facilitating the research and optimization of the composite materials developed by the BBT. AGAUR, with this type of funding, decisively collaborates in closing the gap between laboratory research and clinical application, accelerating the path towards market readiness and specific solutions for each patient".

The final resolution of the  Indústria del Coneixement 2024 grants, promoted by the Department of Research and Universities of the Generalitat de Catalunya and AGAUR, was published at the end of November, last year.

The main objective of the grants is to promote the transfer of knowledge generated in research centers and universities to the productive sector of Catalonia, contributing to an economic model based on innovation.

In the 2024 edition, AGAUR has awarded a total of 51 grants to projects in the Seed category, 45 in Product and 24 in Innovators.
