Short Bio

Montserrat Español got her degree in Chemistry from the Universitat de Barcelona (1997) and her PhD from the Nanyang Technological University of Singapore (2004). She is currently Associate Professor at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. She has done several predoctoral and postdoctoral research stays in different institutions (Nanyang Technological University of Singapore, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Centre des Matériaux Pierre-Marie Fourt de l'École Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris and Uppsala Universitet in Sweden) through grants such as the Juan de la Cierva. In 2006 she joined the Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering group at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) where she is currently a professor and researcher.

She is the author of numerous publications indexed in scientific journals of impact, book chapters, as well as numerous contributions to conferences. Her research focuses on the study of calcium phosphates as biomaterials in the field of bone regeneration and as antimicrobial substrates, as well as investigating the use of calcium phosphate nanoparticles for the treatment of diseases and stimulation of bone regeneration.
