Short Bio
Marta Pegueroles is an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at UPC and, since 2019, Vice Dean of Promotion and Student Affairs at the Barcelona East School of Engineering (EEBE-UPC). Industrial engineer and PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) (2009), she has completed predoctoral research stays at Université Paris XIII (Paris, France) and the Instituto de Engenharia Biomédica (INEB) (Porto, Portugal).
She is currently the principal investigator of the Biomaterials for Vascular Applications research line in the BBT-UPC group. Her research focuses on the development of 3D-printed bioresorbable stents and their integration into tissue for vascular applications. She is currently working on a project on pediatric aortic coarctation (Polycoarct - PID2021-124868OB-C22) and is exploring its applicability in pulmonary artery stenosis. Her main lines of research include the development of bioresorbable zinc-based alloys with coatings to control their degradation, the fabrication of stents by 3D printing, and surface modification to promote endothelialization and reduce complications such as restenosis and thrombosis.
She has published more than 30 articles in prestigious journals, supervised 6 PhD theses, and participated in numerous international conferences. She has obtained funding in more than five national and international competitive projects, one of them focused on technology transfer, from which a patent has resulted. Collaboration with prestigious international laboratories has led to joint publications, and she was awarded the prestigious Fulbright Fellowship to carry out three-month research stay in Edelman’s lab at the Institute for Medical Engineering and Science (IMES) of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston, USA (2024).
