Short Bio
Maria Khvorostina has expertise in medical physics, genetics and tissue engineering. With a Master’s degree in Medical Physics from Moscow State University (Russia, 2018), she contributed in the field of regenerative medicine by developing 3D printing techniques to fabricate advanced tissue engineering constructs.
In 2023, she obtained her PhD in Genetics, where her work was focused on gene- activated 3D-printed scaffolds designed to enhance bone regeneration. By combining sodium alginate hydrogels with genetic constructions, she unlocked new possibilities for accelerating osteogenesis, demonstrating a unique fusion of material science and molecular biology.
Now, as part of the PlasmaMED Lab, she is studying plasma-treated 3D-printed hydrogels, that harness the power of cold atmospheric plasma to boost tissue repair. Passionate about innovation, she continues to explore how advanced biomaterials and biotechnologies can revolutionize healing—one layer at a time.
