Short Bio
Irina Terrero Rodríguez is a researcher from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. With ample experience in multidisciplinary projects, Irina is interested in applying the fundamentals of electrochemistry and materials science to solve real-life problems.
She did her B.S. in Chemistry at Utah State University (2017) in the US and a M.S. in Chemistry with a Biochemistry focus at Montclair State University (2019). She then moved to the UK and did her Ph. D. at the University of Warwick (2023) with Prof. Julie Macpherson within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions network “Break Biofilms.” For her doctoral thesis she researched boron doped diamond electrodes as sensors for bacterial growth in drinking water and to synthesise green disinfectants through electrolysis.
After her doctorate, Irina was a postdoctoral researcher with the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique at the Laboratoire de Chimie Physique et Microbiologie pour les Matériaux et l’Environnement in Nancy, France. She worked on developing a flow cell platform to study biofilm growth on electrochemical sensors in-situ using Raman spectroscopy and epifluorescence microscopy.
Currently, Irina is a María de Maeztu postdoctoral researcher at CCEM. Her research is focused on the development and characterization of new metallic surfaces for biomedical applications.
On her free time, Irina enjoys dancing, painting, and serving her two cat overlords.
