Short Bio
Guillem Ferreres Cabanes graduated in Biotechnology in 2015 from Universitat Politècnica de València and obtained his master's degree in Advanced Microbiology from Universitat de Barcelona in 2016. During this period, he carried out several short stays in laboratories in different areas, such as clinical microbiology, molecular biology and industrial enzymology.
In 2024, Guillem obtained his doctorate in Polymers and Biopolymers after defending his thesis entitled “Novel hybrid metal-organic nanoparticles for antimicrobial applications”. His research was carried out at the Department of Chemical Engineering at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Faculty of Terrassa. During his thesis, he developed nanoparticles and nanostructured materials with antimicrobial activity for various biomedical applications, such as contact lenses, wound dressings and hospital textiles.
In 2025, he joined the Center for Multiscale Science and Engineering (CCEM) - Maria de Maeztu Unit as a post-doctoral researcher to work in collaboration with the BBT and eb-POLICOM research groups, focusing his research on the functionalization of ophthalmic prostheses with the aim of conferring antimicrobial activity and improving their biocompatibility.
