Short Bio
Giovanni Ferrandi is an Italian researcher with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Materials Chemistry (2019) and a Master’s degree in Organic Synthesis (2021) from the University of Bologna. He conducted his master’s research at the Department of Pharmacy of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), where he completed an internship focused on organic synthesis methodologies and the development of organometallic compounds applied to pharmaceutical chemistry.
Giovanni obtained his Ph.D. in Drug Discovery and Development from the Department of Pharmacy and Biotechnology at the University of Bologna in March 2025. His doctoral thesis, entitled “Design and Synthesis of RAD51/RAD52 Inhibitors to Achieve Synthetic Lethality in Combination with PARP Inhibitors in Pancreatic Cancer”, focused on the design, synthesis, and characterization of small molecules that inhibit protein–protein interactions involved in DNA repair pathways relevant to tumor development. His research was positioned at the interface between organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, and computational chemistry.
During his Ph.D., he completed a six-month research stay at the Laboratory of Therapeutic Proteins and Peptides (LPPT) at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), where he gained expertise in manual and automated solid-phase peptide synthesis, high-throughput screening of cyclic peptide libraries, and biophysical characterization techniques.
Since September 2025, Dr. Ferrandi is working as a postdoctoral researcher in the Biomaterials, Biomechanics & Tissue Engineering Group at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), within the project “Multifunctional Dynamic Biomaterials Stimuli-Responsive: Addressing Cellular Responses and Antibacterial Properties for Bone Tissue Engineering (DYNAMIC)”, under the supervision of Dr. Carles Mas Moruno and Dr. María Godoy Gallardo.
