Researcher Profile at FUTUR

Short Bio

Francesco Tampieri (Italy, 1988) is Assistant Professor at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, at the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), within the PlasmaMedLab: Plasmas for BioMedical Applications Laboratory.

He got his PhD in Molecular Sciences in 2016 at the University of Padova (IT) carrying out a project focused on the study of defects in graphene-like materials by spectroscopic and computational methods. After the PhD, he obtained a Postdoctoral position in the Plasma Chemistry group of the Department of Chemical Sciences of the University of Padova. His research was focused on the chemical characterization of plasma/liquid systems and the application of different plasma sources for water treatment and food sterilization. He joined the BBT group in 2019 as senior postdoctoral researcher and responsible for the physico-chemical part of several projects and obtained the position of Assistant professor in 2023. His research is mainly focused on the interaction between plasma-generated reactive species and biopolymers.

His expertise includes physical chemistry (spectroscopy) and plasma chemistry, competence in all major techniques for chemical analyses (HPLC chromatography coupled with UV-Vis and MS detectors, gas chromatography, ion chromatography, UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy, EPR and NMR spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy), ROS and RNS detection and quantification, chemical kinetics and computational modelling.
