Short Bio

Daniel Rodríguez Rius (Barcelona, 1971) received his Mechanical Engineer M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC). He was Director of Research and Development in a medical device company for seven years. Nowadays, he is an Associate Professor at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Barcelona East School of Engineering (EEBE-UPC) in Barcelona. He is also a researcher at the Barcelona Research Center in Multiscale Science and Engineering (UPC). He has participated in different applied research projects in the field of Biomaterials and Medical Devices and he is the author of tens of papers in scientific journals and Congress’ contributions. Moreover, he was President of the Iberian Biomaterials and Biomechanics Society (SIBB). He is adjunct editor of the journal Biomecánica, and active member in several science societies at the Biomaterials and Biomechanics area.

His main research interests are focused on the design and development of new bioactive surfaces for the improvement of the interaction between biomaterial and live tissue, and the applications of the nanotechnologies in this research field.
