Short Bio

Albert Ruiz Sorribas (Barcelona, 1993) obtained a BSc in Biotechnology in 2015 and a MSc in Advanced Microbiology in 2016, both by the University of Barcelona. During this time, he did research internships in the Department of Biology and Biotechnology of the University of Pavia (taly), the Department of Health Microbiology and Parasitology of the University of Barcelona, and the Institute of Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia of the CSIC.

He obtained his PhD in Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences by the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium), in 2021. The aim of his thesis, entitled: “Targeting inter-kingdom biofilms with antimicrobials and hydrolytic enzymes”, was to use enzymes to enhance the activity of antimicrobials in the context of prosthetic joint infections comprising both bacteria and fungi.

After completion of the thesis, he did a mission of two years in the department of Quality Control of Glaxosmithkline (Belgium), where he was responsible for the management of several project to prepare for the introduction to market of new vaccines.

In 2024, he joined ERC BAMBBI project (PI: Prof. Maria-Pau Ginebra) as a postdoctoral researcher. Within the project, he aims is to study the interaction between the bacteria and the surface in order to enhance the bactericidal activity.
