Six BBT Researchers Named Among the World’s Most Cited Spanish Female Scientists

The 2026 edition of the CSIC ranking of top female researchers highlights six scientists from the Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering Group (BBT) and 168 from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). The prestigious list features Spanish and international women scientists with the highest metric indicators.

Six BBT Researchers Named Among the World’s Most Cited Spanish Female Scientists

Six female researchers from the BBT, alongside 168 affiliated with the UPC, have been recognized in the 2026 ranking of outstanding Spanish women scientists working worldwide.

The annual ranking, recently updated by the Cybermetrics Lab of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), features the top 12,110 most-cited Spanish and Spain-based female researchers. It includes Google Scholar profiles that meet the highest metric indicators (H-index and citations) and have an assigned ORCID identifier. The list highlights both Spanish women researching at home or abroad, as well as international female scientists affiliated with Spanish institutions.

The BBT researchers part of the Ranking are (in order): 

  • Prof. Maria-Pau Ginebra leads the BBT and UPC cohort, securing the 134th place globally.

  • Dr. Cristina Canal (position 2.511)

  • Dr. Montserrat Español (position 5.939)

  • Dr. Maria Godoy-Gallardo (position 8.963)

  • Dr. Marta Pegueroles (position 10.018)

  • Dr. Anna Díez-Escudero (position 11.564)
